Weeknotes #11: Bones bones bones!
It's half six and I'm in my usual book-writing time but I just remembered I also have to do these weeknotes today, to which my reaction is: aghghghghghghgh! I know I don't have to do these, but I also get very protective over my habit streaks because I know that if I don't keep them up they have a very good chance of never starting again. So I'm just gonna slam my hands on the keyboard for 20 minutes and see what emerges.
Honestly I think I mostly just want to talk about a movie I like.
Deep in the bone zone
I watched two films at the cinema this week. One of them was Hamnet, which was good but I have no particularly strong feelings about. The other one was 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
I really loved 28 Years Later so I was hyped for this, but didn't entirely know what to expect. And coming out of it, it took me a while to decide how I felt about it. I knew I liked it, but I wasn't sure how much. Nia DaCosta does a great job and very much makes the franchise her own, but if I went in craving more of exactly what 28YL was dishing out, this was something rather different. But the more I thought about it, the more I liked it, even if the themes didn't hit as hard for me. After all, 28YL very much subverted what I expected from it, and that turned out to be one of the things I liked about it most. It makes sense that 28YL:TBT would do the same. Plus it's just weird as shit. I appreciate the sheer fact that something this weird exists.
Also there's one scene that's just incredible and I will rewatch it about a thousand times once it shows up on YouTube. I refuse to say any more because you deserve to see it unspoiled.

I think I'm going to watch it at the cinema again next week.
Naturally, as with most movies I love, it seems to be bombing at the box office. For some reason many people are not interested in an incredibly violent film about a bunch of post-apocalyptic Jimmy Savile cosplayers and an orange Ralph Fiennes constructing his ziggurat of skulls while quietly singing Duran Duran. Also it was released in January and features a surprising amount of dong shots, neither of which traditionally make for box office gold. Oh well. Fuck you, general populace! Go see The Bone Temple!
Those animals ain't gonna cross themselves
The Animal Crossing: New Horizons DLC came out this week! I've been enjoying it so far. I like decorating, so getting new items is always very exciting. However the best part has to be the QOL changes to crafting. Bulk-crafting directly from storage is such a colossal improvement compared to what we had before. I've actually been crafting stuff for bells now just because it's so much less painful.
I think my other favourite part is that unlike campers, the hotel guests actually leave the hotel and wander around the island. It's fun to have some unfamiliar faces to talk to!
Music corner
Fuck me, this Hayley Williams album is so good. I keep waiting to go off it but honestly I think it just keeps getting even better. If I'd done my best of 2025 ranking a few weeks later, it would have had a good shot at the podium.
How's the rest of it going?
I have not ordered any takeaways.
I have not bought any books or CDs.
I have not done any push-ups.
My overall feeling at the moment is stressed out. I had a busy weekend dealing with Life Obligations and do not feel very rested for it.
Oh well. I wrote the blog post. Back to writing the book.
