This time last week, I was feeling pretty fried, and that feeling definitely persisted for the following days. It's been dark and very, very wet here. Certainly at that stage of the winter where it seems like everything outside has been replaced with mud.

Thankfully this weekend has been more relaxed than the last one. I've had more time to read and write and fart around with this website. Hell, I even cleaned the bathroom.

Where are my drugs???

As mentioned in my last blog post, I was hoping to start some new ADHD meds this week. I haven't been medicated for almost two years now thanks to the Concerta shortage, and I finally made it through Psychiatry UK's massive titration waitlist to be prescribed something else. So I was all ready to go with my hopes and dreams (and also my blood pressure monitor).

Naturally DPD failed to deliver the meds for several days (despite me being in the entire time) and then sent the package back to the pharmacy. Normally I don't like to moan about deliveries going wrong because I know it can be a stressful job and these people frequently get paid like shit. But please give me my brain pills 😭

My show is (was) on

Because I was stuck in my house waiting for DPD, I did not make it to the cinema this week for that Bone Temple rewatch. But I did watch some telly.

The big event for me was the finale of The Traitors (the UK version). This episode was my Superbowl because I fucking love this show and this season has been especially great. If you've never watched a season of The Traitors, it's basically just people playing Mafia/Werewolf in a Scottish castle with Claudia Winkleman. I love the scheming and I love the backstabbing and I love seeing the traitors wriggle their way out of jams when a faithful finally catches onto them (or seeing them crash out spectacularly). And, most of all, I love Jessie's eyeshadow and Stephen's jumpsuits.

I've also watched a few of the international versions to get my Traitors fix. The Australian one was fun, although season 2 was properly maddening. I watched the first US season but didn't enjoy it as much as half the cast were reality TV celebs who I had never heard of, and I think it's better with non-famous people. I get the impression the show is not as big in the US as it is in the UK, but here it's absolutely massive. So if you need to make awkward small talk with a stranger over here, asking them about The Traitors is a safe bet.

Anyway now the season is over and my life is barren. What the fuck am I supposed to do with myself?

I also finished watching the first season of Colin From Accounts, which is a romcom with one of the wildest meet-cutes I've ever seen (woman distracts man by flashing him, man runs over dog, woman and man adopt dog together because of dog's enormous vet bill – truly a love story as old as time). I love romcoms because I'm a big soppy cow at heart, so I don't know why I don't watch more romcom shows. I guess not many exist? I keep meaning to check out You're the Worst but I've never gotten around to it. Anyway I generally like this one, and it definitely thrives on the two leads having excellent chemistry (so it makes sense they're married in real life). Also "Colin From Accounts Payable Who Is Working On The Big Merger" is a fantastic dog name. I mean, look at him:

Colin from Accounts Payable Who Is Working On The Big Merger, a border terrier

I watched the Stranger Things finale a few weeks ago and didn't have much to say about it, but I just heard about the whole "secret REAL finale" theory happening in the fandom and it is honestly very funny to just see the next generation create the Johnlock Conspiracy all over again.

Back in fantasyland

I broke my not-buying-any-books streak this week. Reading the first book in a trilogy can go two ways for me – either I finish it and go "yeah, pretty good, I'll read the next one at some point" and then I forget, or I finish it and go "I need to read the next one immediately". Godkiller by Hannah Kaner went the second way for me, and I just had to buy Sunbringer to see what happened next. And I've nearly finished that one now, so good luck keeping me away from Faithbreaker.

It's actually been a while since I've read any standard high fantasy novels, and I'm having a fun time with these. There's plot intrigue, there's interesting (but not overpowering) worldbuilding, and there are characters who I'm really invested in. Without spoiling anything, I do think one protagonist has been sidelined a bit in Sunbringer, but I'm hopeful that'll change in the third book (and this morning I read a twist that made me go "WHAT!" out loud, which is always fun).

The end of January approaches

I have not ordered any takeaways.

I have not bought any CDs.

The entire concept of me doing a push-up is probably a write-off, let's be real.

The big event this coming week will be a session with our dog's behaviourist, who we haven't seen in a long time. When I talk about my dog online, I mostly focus on what I think of as his "Marley and Me-level bullshit" (i.e. things that may stress us out but make other people laugh when they hear about them). But he is honestly a very challenging dog with a lot of issues, and sometimes knowing how to do right by him can be tough. Still, this behaviourist has been good with him in the past, so I'm hopeful they'll be able to help us out. Even if I suspect at least 50% of it will be them giving us a pep talk.
