Weeknotes #14: Touch grass
Hello, I am posting about my week again.
The word on the feed is that Neocities is experiencing a bit of a popularity bump at the moment. I've somehow gotten a thousand views this week, which feels like a lot to me as I'm pretty small fry. I think for the first few months I was working on this site, I assumed nobody else would ever really be looking at it, but I guess somebody is. So: hi! You should make a website too. It's fun.
Brain chemistry corner
I finally started my new ADHD meds this week. Hard to tell how well they're working so far, since my emotional baseline is totally out of whack anyway. I think they've helped me concentrate a little bit, but they may also have made me crankier.
One evening I found myself getting into really pointless, dumb arguments on Discord even though I knew it wasn't remotely constructive. Finally I logged off and went to bed, still grumpy, and then tried to visualise my frustrations as rocks and yeeted them into the imaginary ocean. It didn't work. The rocks washed back onto the shore immediately.
What does work is going for a walk. 99% of the time, going for a walk makes me feel better. Go for a walk with another person and have a little chat, or go alone and listen to music, or just to the sounds around me. Look at different things. Feel my feet touch the ground, over and over again.
A busy weekend
My niece and her dad came to stay with us this weekend. We had a lot of fun but I am now absolutely knackered. I'm definitely not used to how full-on life with little kids can be. Three straight hours at the playpark had me feeling pretty scrambled. But we did both agree that wee and poo are extremely funny.
She also made this amazing drawing of me, which I have to show off to you all:

It now has pride of place on the fridge. I'm thinking of sticking it on my about me page as well (although sadly I am not this cute in real life). Good incentive to finally fix that page up!
The CD situation
Time to draw another hard line under CD purchases for a while. I did buy more this week but in my defence (lol) I found a cool local secondhand record shop I didn't know existed and they were really friendly and had a decent selection. But it's well past time to give shopping a rest and enjoy the backlog.
I did pick up some great stuff though. Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson and Southern Star by Sidestepper have been this week's musical highlights. I feel like my CD list is getting pretty unwieldy and I'd like to do a better job of spotlighting my thoughts on particular albums, so I might rethink how I handle this in the future. Maybe keep the list but also have a separate feed of new entries? Hopefully Eleventy and I can work some magic together.
At the movies
I watched a lot of films this week, some in the cinema and some at home, but I don't have a ton to say about any of them. Scary Movie in particular is the dictionary definition of "has not aged well". But afterwards I messaged the sibling groupchat with WHAZZZAPPPPPPP, and one sibling (a fellow millennial) immediately replied WHAAAZZZAAPPPPPP, and then we continued on for a solid ten minutes while the zoomer youngest ignored both of us. So that was probably the highlight. WHAAAZZAAAAPPPPPPPP!!
This coming week is going to be a big cinema-going week for me though. I don't know why every single distributor decided to drop something hot in the UK on 20 February, but the listings are absolutely stacked. The Secret Agent, Wasteman, If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, The Moment, Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die – I think The Testament of Ann Lee is technically out too but nobody near me even has space for it yet. Anyway, I'm going to put my cinema pass to as much use as I can, so wish me luck.
