Enough already
We are now several weeks into July, and I have been neglecting this website.
My main excuse is that we're already on hellish heatwave #3 and... yeah, I have nothing more to say about the weather at this point. It's fucking hot and my sleep schedule is wrecked and I can't think straight and blah blah blah. Only gonna get worse from here! It's fine! It's never been more fucking fine!!
As my secondary excuse, I had family visiting from abroad recently. It was nice to see them, even if we were all suffering in the heat. But making the most of them being here also meant packing out my schedule with social stuff, and now my batteries are feeling a bit tapped out.
Third excuse is
THE FOOTBALL
England are into the semi-finals and it's coming home three lions on a shirt I said MAAAYYBAAAAYYYYY
Whew. Sorry. Just had to get that out of my system.
But yes, I have been watching a lot of the World Cup. This is also to the detriment of my sleep schedule, but I don't care. I got up in the dead of night to watch England v Mexico's delayed 2am kickoff and it was absolutely worth it. One of the most tense football-viewing experiences of my life – goals and penalties and red cards and DRAMA! And then Harry Kane's ridiculous lost-voice interview! I was so hyped up afterwards that I couldn't get to sleep until after 5am.
Last night's match against Norway was definitely not on the same level. We looked pretty sloppy, although to be fair I would also not want to run around for 120 minutes in the hellish Florida humidity. But we scraped through (JUUUUUUUDE) and now it's a nervy wait for Wednesday.
I think we might be able to take Argentina. I am less convinced about France. France would be a tough one.
If we actually win it all, I will get Jude Bellingham's portrait tattooed on my arsecheek. Or maybe my boy Thomas Tuchel, going absolutely apeshit on the sidelines. (I love Tuchel. He's hilarious. Make him England coach for life.)
I don't have anything else going on so here's a music recommendation
Today's earworm is "Young London" by Confidence Man, which came out a few days ago and has been looping on my headphones ever since. This is perfect hot weather music. It should be coming out of car speakers, or through the open windows of someone's house, or maybe playing at a neighbour's barbecue. (If my neighbours were having barbecues instead of also hunkering down inside their houses trying not to melt.)

Con Man are great. I've loved these Australian goofballs ever since they teamed up with Jade to make "Gossip", the best pop single of 2025, so I really hope this is the start of a new album rollout. Maybe a tour?? I've heard they're really fun live and I would love a chance to copy Janet Planet's dance moves in person.
If you are at all interested in dance music, especially the kind that would fit into the 90s UK club scene, you should listen to 3AM (La La La) immediately. Or maybe start with my fave track "Sicko", which is (imo) a criminally underrated Depeche Mode-influenced masterpiece. That breakdown at the end! Ouuuaghghghghh!!
